MUSIC UP CLOSE NETWORK – connecting orchestral music to young audiences, a multi-year project of the Accademia Nazionale di Santa Cecilia, was selected by the European Commission along with 14 others throughout Europe (125 projects were submitted), one of the two to be financed in Italy.
Within the MUSIC UP CLOSE NETWORK programme, the Accademia is the promoter and organizer of a series of international activities aimed at the diffusion of the music culture especially among the young. The Santa Cecilia Academy leads a network of prestigious orchestras and organizations in a start-up programme aimed at seeking and sharing new and innovative strategies for promoting music and reaching new audience.
The three-year project (June 2016 – December 2019) is organized in a number of modules (FRESH MUSIC IN THE AIR, NURTURE THE FUTURE, MUSIC AMBASSADORS PROGRAM, JUMP START) including the commission of new works to be performed in more than 15 European countries; training and master courses for young musicians; the use of a digital communication platform ( allowing access to new productions through social networks and other multimedia tools made available by the European partners – with the support from the Lazio Region and Regesta.exe.

List of nations participating in the project:
·         Orchestre National de Lille – France
·         Barcelona Symphony Orchestra – Spain
·         Netherlands Philharmonic Orchestra – Holland
·         Sarajevo Philharmonic Orchestra –Bosnia and Herzegovina
·         Ljubljana International Orchestra – Slovenia
·         Montenegrin Symphony Orchestra - Montenegro
·         International Yehudi Menuhin Foundation – Belgium
Among the initiatives of the MUSIC UP CLOSE NETWORK project is the Italian premiere – in March 2017 – of Anna e Zef, a multimedia opera inspired by the story of Anna Frank.
Anna e Zef is the result of an international co-production with Amsterdam’s Netherland Philharmonic Orchestra. Presented in an Italian version, it is enhanced by innovative multimedia directing that supplements the traditional forms of the musical theatre with the magic of projections and motion graphics.

Coinciding with this initiative, Accademia di Santa Cecilia has launched the “Scrivere di Musica” competition for school students, and the production of an e-book.

The Accademia was a member of the Euroclassical European cooperation programme, working alongside prestigious European schools, and in particular the Sibelius Academy in Helsinki, the Guildhall School of Music and Drama in London, Fundación Albéniz in Madrid, Herasmushogeschool in Brussels, Escola Superior de Música, Artes e Espectáculo in Porto, and Madrid’s Instituto Internacional de Música de Cámara.

The Santa Cecilia High Education Department was also involved in Euroclassical, a five-year European programme aimed at creating a network of European music schools of recognized prestige, with the main objective of supporting the most gifted students in the delicate phase of transition between musical training and professional careers. Started in 2012, Euroclassical supported the artistic activities carried out in each school, encouraging dialogue and exchange between the various participating institutions and promoting the participation of some of the best students to the Santander Encuentro de Música y Academia – a Summer programme during which for a period of one month, students selected from various European schools live and play together while attending instrument lessons and courses, and enjoying the opportunity to perform in a series of symphonic and chamber music concerts. The Euroclassical programme also developed a virtual stage in the platform, through which the students’ best performances have been promoted through live webcasts and recordings available on demand.
Concerts are available on line at the official website
